Contents of the My Employees Development Tab

The buttons at the top of the screen determine the details that display in the Employee Ribbon. Depending on features enabled for you and your organization, you may have access to view and manage skills and competencies, development plans, project teams, career paths, succession plan nominations, mentoring relationships, and performance/potential ratings.

Field Description
Employee Section Header

The section header for each employee contains the name and job title. Click the name to open the employee's Total Talent Profile, where you can view details about the employee. Click the job title to open the Position Profile screen, where you can view details about the job.

Employee Badge and Ribbon
The Employee Badge contains a photo and beneath that key Development information:
  • Potential: Shows the employee's risk of loss level (low, medium, high) and the next expected action (In Position, Promotion, Lateral Move, Termination).
  • Time in Position: Lists the amount of time in years months and days.
  • Drill Down icon:Click the icon to view employee profiles for the direct reports of the current employee. Click the Up arrow next to the original employee name to return to the original employee.

The details that display on the Ribbon area to the right of the photo depend on the tab and button selected. For example, if the Skills and Competencies button is selected on the Development tab, a list of the employee's competencies and skills display in the Ribbon. The buttons available for selection depend on the features enabled for you and your organization.

Skills and Competencies

When selected an employee's Ribbon lists the employee's skills and competencies.

From the Competencies Actions menu you can Withdraw approved Competencies, and Approve or Reject those waiting approval. Click the Manage Competencies button to view, add, score and delete competencies gained for the selected employee.

From the Skills menu you can Endorse, Reject or Remove Endorsement of Skills. Click the Manage Skills button to assign skills to the selected employee and indicate the level of experience for each skill. Skills are proficiencies that are learned or developed through training or experience. Skills differ from competencies in that skills do not include behaviors or innate abilities. They help match the appropriate candidate to positions within the organization, provide a basis for appraisal ratings, and can be earned through classes or project teams.

Development Plans

When selected an employee's Ribbon lists current and past Development Plans. Click a plan name to view full plan details, or click the View Details link to view a pop-up summary of details. Click the Manage Development Plans button to open the screen where you can manage plans and add new plans.

Project Teams

When selected an employee's Ribbon lists clickable links to the employee's projects teams, as well as pop-up link that displays project team details such as milestones.

Career Path
When selected an employee's Ribbon lists a clickable link to Active and Pending Career Paths for the selected employee, as well as a pop-up of details for each plan. Options available from the Actions menu are:
  • Add to Career Path
  • Add to Development Plan
  • View Gap Analysis for Ultimate Job
  • View Pending Career Path Jobs
  • Edit
  • Delete
Succession Plans

When selected an employee's Ribbon lists details about the employee, such as where the employee sits on their path to their ultimate goal, potential successors for their current position, other plans where the employee is a participant, and the risk of loss.

Mentoring Relationships

When selected an employee's Ribbon lists details about the employee's relationship as a mentor and mentee, a clickable arrow to view details on the Mentoring Relationship screen, and a clickable pop-up that displays goals.

Actions

You perform the following actions from each employee's Actions menu. The actions listed depend on configuration, user permissions, and placement of employees on the org chart. To view an employee's Total Talent Profile, click the employee name.

  • Add Career Path: Click to add a new Career Path for the selected employee.
  • Add Development Plan: Click to add a new Development Plan for the selected employee.
  • Drill Down: Click to view employee profiles for the direct reports of the current employee. Click the Up arrow to return to the original employee.
  • Nominate for Succession Plan: Click to nominate an employee for a new position and specify when that employee should be promoted.
  • View 9 Box: Click to view a graphical representation of a direct report's progress and growth using the metrics of potential ratings and performance score.
  • Set Performance/Potential Rating: Click to open the Set Performance/Potential Rating dialog box, where you can edit the Potential scale, set a manual Performance score, select the next step for the employee on their path, such as a lateral move or a promotion, and specify the risk of loss as low, medium, or high.

    The rating options available in the Performance Score column of the Set Performance/Potential Rating dialog box are determined by the scale selected by an Administrator as the System Overall Scale. An Administrator sets this option on the Scales screen (Administration > Global Settings > Your Organization > Scales).
